Wallboard Day 2

Just to show you what is holding up the expanse where the wall was knocked down. It opens up 15' of wall space.  Isn't that a beautiful header - thanks Rey.

Kitchen area wall boarded.  Guy in the background on stilts is taping and mudding.

Do you like the recessed lighting?

The guy doing the work is Don "Willie" Shutter.  I would highly recommend him as he is fast, does quality work and is fair priced.  He was not satisfied with one of his workers today and fired him on the spot.  He expects professional quality work or else.  As a post facto edit....   Don and his crew finished the entire job in 3 days!  It would have taken me 3 months.  He's a good man and if you're in the Jefferson County area and looking for this type of work I would recommend him.

Things are shaping up - It is really starting to look like a real cottage.  Tomorrow they will finish taping and do the knockdown finish.  Then it will be time for Ron and I to begin painting, tiling, putting in the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom, etc.  Progress will be slower but we will keep you posted on further progress.

Here comes the wallboard

The electrical is just about finished so now comes the wallboard.  It is amazing how fast these guys work.  It would have taken Dad and I forever.

First day and they finished half the house!!!!
What a difference clean wall-board makes.

Eric does this fan look familiar?

He looks really happy - must be that he likes the fact that the rebuilt wall is sturdy now.

Let the Reno begin

We are back from Long Island and now Ron and Rey are ready to begin. Rey is heading up the electrical and plumbing work.  It is hard to see much from the pictures but it will be a big improvement and we will know that everything is new and safe.

Rey worked with me at BOCES and is a talented fellow.

The wall is down!  We're building a "header" to hold the trusses up.

Notice that the sliding door and wall have been knocked out.  It really opens up the place.

This will be the kitchen area.

Not too pretty but all new electrical will let us all sleep well at night.

Wow what did we get into?  10 hour days ... I thought I was retired?

Demo Continues

Demo work, clearing out and cleaning up continue. The cottage is being stripped down to the studs and we will start with a clean slate.

view from bedroom area to front of cottage ... nice mattress - eck.

porch area ... with wall soon to be removed.

                                                                  view of bathroom
All that demo and clean-up means many trips to the dump.  This is just one of five trips that we've taken so far.  There are more needed but with no truck it will have to wait for now.  Good bye truckie.... you served us well with over 132,000 miles!!!!

In spite all of the mess you still can't beat this killer view.
